Home Help Service

Description

The Home Help service offers help to older people and persons with special needs in performing light domestic chores, shopping, errand and preparation of light meals. The aim of such service is to aid beneficiaries to keep on living in their community independently and as long as possible. It also aims to provide support for informal carers.
 

Eligibility

·     Persons who are sixty years old and over.
·     Persons under sixty years of age holding a valid special ID card issued by the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD).
·     Applicants who are terminally ill, irrelevant of their age (Medical report should be endorsed by consultant attending applicant).

What you’ll get

Valid applications will be considered by the Home Help Allocation Board. If approved, the Board will indicate the number of weekly service hours allocated. Board’s decision is sent by post to all applicants.
 
Home Help supervisor will contact approved applicants and set up an appointment to make a home visit. During this visit, supervisor will provide detailed information about the service and set up another day to introduce you to a helper and indicate the day and time service will be provided.
 

Required Documents

·     Completed application form
·     Medical report signed by the respective General Practitioner.  Medical report for terminally ill applicants under the age of 60 should be endorsed by the consultant attending applicant.
·     Persons with special needs and under 60 years of age must attach a copy of the special ID.
·     It is highly recommended to attach a copy with the information of any recent medical/surgical interventions. Where applicable, a copy of the hospital discharge case summary will be necessary.
·     Signed Declaration Form

Fees and Charges 

·       Irrelevant to the number of weekly service hours approved by Home Help Allocation Board, for a household with one beneficiary, a weekly contribution of €2.33 will be deducted from the pension.
·       For households with more than one beneficiary, a weekly contribution of €3.49 will be deducted from the pension of any household beneficiary identified.
·       If help in preparation of a light meal is requested, a household with one beneficiary will pay an extra weekly contribution of €1.16, while a household with more than one beneficiary will pay an extra weekly contribution of €1.75.
·       Beneficiaries may opt to pay this contribution directly to the Welfare Committee.
